Introducing Alex Williamson, Data Operations Software Developer

Alex enjoys solving complex data and software challenges, with particular interest in the challenges in radio astronomy, and is excited to apply these solutions to the SKA.

Previously, Alex worked at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy (in partnership with AusSRC and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre), developing and optimising processing pipelines for the ASKAP DINGO project.

During this time, Alex integrated a parallel I/O and in memory compression framework called ADIOS2 into key applications in the ASKAP processing software suite and tested the efficacy of data compression on radio astronomy data, demonstrating significant lossy compression without compromising the science value of the data in question.
