Dr Chandrashekar Murugeshan joins AusSRC
Dr Chandrashekar Murugeshan is a Support Scientist at the Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) based at the University of Western Australia.
He is an astrophysicist and radio astronomer whose research focuses on understanding how galaxies form and evolve through observations of the hydrogen gas that fuels star formation. His work contributes to maximising the scientific potential of next-generation radio astronomy facilities in the lead-up to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA).
Prior to joining AusSRC, Chandra held research and commissioning roles with CSIRO, where he contributed to major Australian radio astronomy initiatives including the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) and the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). His work has included helping commission new telescope backends, developing advanced data processing pipelines and delivering science-ready data products for large international survey collaborations.
Chandra has extensive expertise in radio astronomy data analysis, scientific software development, and high-performance computing for large-scale astronomical surveys.
Chandra has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has held leadership positions within major international collaborations, including serving as Deputy Project Scientist for the WALLABY HI Survey and Principal Investigator of the HI-RINGS survey.
At AusSRC, Chandra supports the astronomy community in enabling high-impact science through the effective use of SKA-pathfinder and future SKA data, helping to advance Australia’s leadership in radio astronomy and scientific data-intensive research.
