About the AusSRC Science Enabling Projects
The Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) is an un-incorporated joint venture between CSIRO – Australia’s national science agency, Curtin University, the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre and the University of Western Australia (UWA). Funded by the Australian Government, AusSRC is Australia’s contribution to the international SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet). The SRCNet will support the global flow of data and processing needed for the SKA Observatory (SKAO) and its telescopes – the two most advanced radio telescopes in the world, currently under construction in Australia and South Africa.
As part of a commitment to enabling the scientific output of the Australian SKA science community, AusSRC supports a number of projects to build capabilities that will enable SKA science, known as the AusSRC Science Enabling Projects (ASEPs). The ASEPs will help drive the expansion of scientific workflows and creation of new data-handling pipelines for processing and analysing large astronomical datasets.
About the TAC Membership Call
AusSRC invites expressions of interest from community members interested in serving on the Time Allocation Committee (TAC) for Round 2 of the ASEPs.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a prestigious national merit allocation program supporting the development of SKA science, SKA precursor research, and data-intensive astronomy capabilities within Australia. TAC members will play an important role in assessing proposals, providing constructive feedback, and helping AusSRC to identify projects with strong scientific, technical, and strategic value.
The TAC will include members with a range of relevant scientific and technical expertise. We welcome expressions of interest from active researchers, technical specialists, software developers, and others with experience relevant to one or more of the following areas:
- SKA science and SKA precursor research
- Radio astronomy / interferometry
- Large-scale data processing and analysis workflows
- Research software, pipelines, tools, and services
- HPC, cloud platforms, and computational infrastructure
- Project feasibility, delivery, and community impact
TAC members will be selected by the AusSRC Management Team, with external input sought where required to ensure appropriate expertise, balance and diversity across the committee. Selection will consider scientific and technical expertise, relevant review or committee experience, community representation, career stage, and potential conflicts of interest.
Members will be expected to review proposal materials, participate in assessment discussions, and follow AusSRC’s confidentiality and conflict-of-interest requirements. The expected time commitment will include proposal reading, preparation, and participation in TAC discussions. Further guidance, including the assessment criteria, scoring rubric, conflict-of-interest policy, and technical review criteria, will be provided to TAC members ahead of the proposal review period.
