It's official: AusSRC now a joint venture
The Australian SKA Regional Centre is officially a joint venture organisation.
The joint venture agreement was officially signed off in September 2023, an important milestone in the history of the AusSRC.
Held at the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre, a signing ceremony took place on 22 October 2023, with members of the SKAO Council, Partners of the AusSRC and the broader Australian & international astronomy community in attendance.
Patricia Kelly, Chair of the AusSRC Board, stated at the signing ceremony that, “while the AusSRC team has been working in an interim capacity for some time, the formal establishment of the partnership now allows us to access our grant funding, employ additional staff and ramp up our efforts to support international planning and design work for the network”.
“It establishes the AusSRC as the Australian node of the SKA global computing network”.
The federal Department of Industry, Science and Resources awarded the AusSRC a grant of $63 million to support the first 10 years of AusSRC operations.
The joint venture agreement was signed by CSIRO – Australia’s national science agency, Curtin University, the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre and the University of Western Australia.
