Mara Papavassiliou brings passion for science comms to AusSRC
Mara Papavassiliou is a communications consultant, strategist and writer hailing from Western Australia’s public service. She joins the AusSRC as our Communications and Outreach Coordinator.
Mara Papavassiliou has spent her career creating communications content for a broad range of audiences and a variety of organisations, including not for profits, community legal centres and state government departments.
With a background in both law and communications, she enjoys implementing an organisation’s strategic directives into the written word.
Following the completion of her Juris Doctor degree in 2018, Mara worked at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI). There she has supported initiatives such as the New Industries Fund and WA’s burgeoning space industry.
At JTSI’s Defence Science Centre, Mara administered several grants programs that connected WA researchers and industry with Defence funding, enabling new collaborations in the WA defence science sector.
After a stint working in the Goldfields region, in 2023 she returned to Perth to work on a series of defence science articles commissioned by the State government.
Mara is excited to promote developing SKAO technology and its forthcoming discoveries through her work at AusSRC, as well as showcase the stories of the hard working personnel making it all happen.
